Both the world at large and the societies in
which we live, are full of events that cause concern, make people worry
and even fear what may happen next. Answers to the world’s problems of
famine, disease, crime, terrorism war and the many other ills that
plague society are increasingly hard to find and man appears to be
enveloped in a quagmire from which there appears to be no escape. Yet despite this, for many people in the world, the concept that there is a Supreme Being through whose power all life exists is rejected. They ridicule the very idea of creation and an overruling hand that will one day intervene in world events. The Bible is thus relegated to being an out of date curiosity, having no relevance to the modern world. However, the Bible is the most precious possession that we can ever own. The true Christian believes that it is indeed the Word of God and that within its pages can be found an infallible guide to life and about being saved from both our own sins and from the evil world in which we live. The Bible tells us about God’s purpose with His creation, the reasons why He allows suffering and provides answers to the history of mankind. A pivotal point in history was the birth and ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ. Following His death and resurrection He was taken up into heaven, but the Disciples were promised that Jesus would one day return:
Many Christians accept this prophecy that Jesus will one day return, but
are unsure about when this will be, or about what will happen. This time
of waiting for Him can sometimes discourage faith and hope. Yet world
events, archaeological discoveries and other matters in the news,
frequently provide evidence as to the truth of the Bible, its relevance
to our daily lives and about the prophecies that tell the discerning
Christian what is going to happen before and after Jesus returns. |
